BASIC THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT MOLE REMOVAL

MOLE REMOVAL

Moles are amino skin growth that usually occurs on the face and other body parts. According to the American academy of dermatology, most persons have over 30 moles at particular spots on their skin. Some moles pose no health risks and are completely harmless, but when it is cancerous and bothering you, you can as well remove them. Also, if you don’t like the physical effects it gives to your looks, or it seems to be irritating rubbing against your clothes, you can as well remove it.

HOW TO CHECK IF A MOLE IS CANCEROUS

The best and most preferred way to get this done is to consult a dermatologist for an annual skin cancer screening to find out if a mole is cancerous. If you, in any way, have a history of skin cancer, your dermatologist might recommend it.

In addition, you are advised to consult your dermatologist if you notice any moles that;

  • Aren’t uniform in color
  • Have irregular borders
  • Are asymmetrical
  • Are you experiencing changes in sizes
  • Shape or color
  • Have a diameter that’s bigger than a pencil eraser

HOW IS THE MOLE REMOVAL DONE?

A dermatologist can remove a mole during a routine office visit. At times, you’ll have to visit the dermatologist more than once to get this done. There are four main types of surgical procedures used for mole removal. They include;

  • Burning: The burning procedure uses an electric current to burn up the top layers of a non-cancerous mole carefully. This process might need more than one session to eliminate the mole.
  • Freezing: This method uses a small amount of liquid nitrogen to eliminate a non-cancerous mole.
  • Shaving: This method involves using a surgical blade to shave the mole off the skin’s surface carefully.
  • Excision: The excision method goes a little deeper than shaving to excise the whole mole and stitch the skin together. This method is used when the mole is cancerous.

CAN I GET RID OF MOLES AT HOME?

Several websites today provide some “DIY” tips on home mole removal. However, these methods haven’t proven effective, and some may be dangerous. It will help if you chat with your doctor about the possible options before you use any home remedies to remove the mole. Some of these home methods include;

  • Adding iodine to the mole to get rid of cells inside
  • Cutting the mole off with a razor blade or scissors
  • Burning the  mole with apple cider vinegar
  • Gently tapping garlic on the mole to break it down from the inside.

Other notable remedies that help to get rid of mole include using; banana peel, tea tree oil, hydrogen peroxide, aloe Vera, flax seed oil, a mixture of castor oil, and baking soda. You can even find mole removal creams from pharmacies and various online stores. Applying the cream to the mole is meant to form a scab that eventually falls off with the mole. In all, you should never think of getting rid of a mole at home. This is serious cancer and should be addressed by a medical professional like a dermatologist. After removal, he can send it to the lab for evaluation against cancer.
