Federal prosecutors have issued several subpoenas to former Trump administration officials, former campaign and communications aides, and people currently advising Trump or Save America. William Russell, a senior adviser to Trump, received one of the subpoenas on Wednesday.
According to multiple sources familiar with the subpoena issued by a Washington, D.C. grand jury, the Justice Department has released information related to the founding, funding, and spending of Save America, which has since raised more than $100 million in donations. According to a source familiar with the subpoena’s language, investigators extorted money from people using claims they knew to be false about the 2020 election being stolen by those associated with the Save America PAC. They may be investigating whether you have been defrauded of your money.
Part of the subpoena includes information previously submitted to the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riots, as well as an extensive list of those who worked to overturn the 2020 election results, including a former Trump attorney. We also requested information that the recipient of the communication with (including Rudy Giuliani, Victoria Toshing, Boris Epstein, an adviser to Trump’s 2020 campaign, among others. According to his two subpoenas explained to CNN, it involved correspondence with lists of people in different states.
The DOJ investigation, already the largest in the department’s history, expands beyond the hundreds of mobsters charged in connection with the day’s actions. More recently, investigators investigated efforts by Trump and allies to overturn the 2020 election results, including attempts to submit fake voter lists.
Separately, a House committee has dedicated an entire investigative team to investigating fundraising efforts by the Trump campaign after the 2020 election. And at a hearing in June, the committee tried to argue that the Trump campaign fundraised by falsely claiming the election was stolen.
“Through the committee’s investigation, we found evidence that the Trump campaign and its agents misled donors about where and how the funds would go,” Rep. Zoe Lofgren, a Democrat on the committee, told the hearing. Stated. “So there was a big lie there, but also a big rip-off. Donors deserve to know where their money is really going. It deserves better than what the team did.”
CNN previously reported that Turning Point Action, a conservative pro-Trump organization, paid Guilfoyle for the speech. Turning Point Action is an affiliate of Turning Point USA, a youth organization started by Charlie Kirk, a good friend of Donald Trump Jr.
But Lofgren didn’t say at the time whether she believed financial crimes had taken place.
“I’m not saying it’s a crime, but I think it’s illegal,” Lofgren said.
In a video presentation at the hearing in June, Amanda Wick, a senior investigative adviser to the committee, said the committee had raised $250 million from false election fraud claims by Trump and his allies. The commission said most of the money raised during this period went to Save America PAC, not to election-related litigation.
“Save America PAC includes $1 million to Trump Chief of Staff Mark Meadow’s charitable foundation and $1 million to the America First Policy Institute, a conservative organization that employs former Trump administration officials. has donated millions of dollars to pro-Trump organizations: $204,857 to the Trump Hotel Collection and more than $5 million to Event Strategies, Inc., which organized President Trump’s January 6 rally on the Ellipse. said Wick.
The commission declined to comment on the DOJ investigation.
