California wildfires spread overnight, evacuation ordered

The Siskiyou County factory fire nearly doubled in size, with an estimated 4,000 acres at 20% containment on Saturday, Cal Fire said in a release.

The cause of the day-long fire is under investigation, and evacuation orders have been issued for Weed, Lake Shastina and Edgewood.

“This case is evolving rapidly, and our staff and partners are doing everything they can to keep everyone safe,” the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office said.

Officials say two wild animals grew overnight.

Siskiyou County officials are also fighting wildfires that cover 3,400 acres at 5% containment.

“The fire continues to burn in the timber. The fire has been very active all night. The fire is heading north,” the Cal Fire Siskiyou unit said.

Meanwhile, in Southern California, the Los Angeles County Root Fire was at a 71% containment rate on 5,200 acres Saturday morning, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department update.

“Today’s ground resources are focused on cleaning up hotspots and facilitating containment. Excessive heat, low humidity and steep terrain continue to pose the greatest challenges for firefighters,” the fire department said. says.
