Russia’s Gazprom completely cuts off gas supplies to France’s Engie

Gazprom said in a statement on its official Telegram channel:

Gazprom’s statement added that Russian law prohibits the country’s natural gas suppliers from supplying more gas to foreign buyers if the buyer fails to pay in full within the contract period. .

Gazprom added that it has informed Engie that it will completely stop supplying gas from 1 September until the gas supplied has been paid in full.

The announcement comes just hours after Gazprom said it would cut gas supplies to France.

The drop in supply was “due to disagreements between the parties regarding the application of the contract,” Engie said in a statement Tuesday.

“The cuts are a logical continuation of months of Gazprom’s actions not honoring contracts and cutting supplies to most of its customers,” a source in the French Energy Ministry’s cabinet told CNN. Gazprom’s actions did not compromise the security of French supplies.

Engie also said Gazprom’s cuts would not affect supply.

The company has “already secured the necessary volumes to ensure supply to its customers and its own needs” and has “prevented the direct financial and physical impact that could result from a series of gas supply interruptions.” We have implemented measures to significantly reduce it, Gazprom,” he said.

Engie did not immediately respond to CNN’s request for comment on the complete outage.
