Parents of Robb Elementary School Complain to Uvalde School Seeking Superintendent Fired

The school board was holding a special meeting Monday night to consider complaints against Superintendent Hal Harrell.

Adam Martinez told CNN he is seeking “accountability” after the Texas legislature reported on the May 24 shooting.

A report from the Texas House Commission of Inquiry found Rob Elementary’s “safety practices” to be inadequately prepared for the risk of armed intruders and the common practice of leaving doors unlocked. The massacre was the worst school shooting in the United States since 2012.

The school board meeting began with about 10 minutes of public comment time, but moved to a private executive session.

Uvalde School Board to Meet August 24 on Dismissal of District Police Chief Pete Arredondo
The board has another meeting scheduled for Wednesday. School District Police Chief Pete Arredondo Considered Fired.

Authorities said Arredondo was the commander at the scene during the shooting, but the chief disputed this and did not believe he was responsible.

Officers responding from multiple agencies did not enter the classroom to confront the shooter until more than an hour after the shooting began.

Harrell recommended Arredondo’s dismissal while he was on unpaid leave.

The school board has postponed Arredondo’s dismissal hearings twice at the request of due process attorneys.
