Two Ohio men were shot dead by police after a previous security incident in a remote area, according to the sheriff’s office.

Two men died around 9 a.m. Saturday after calling about a shooting at a property late Friday, said Capt. Jay Sheffer of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheffer said at a press conference that no police officers were injured.

Knox County resident Molly Main told CNN that she took photos of SWAT vehicles in the area and heard gunshots shortly after 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

Police have not released details of what led to the officer-involved shooting. Mr. Scheffer said that apart from the two men who were shot dead, one “was evacuated safely from the residence before the shooting occurred.” was taken away,” he said.

On Saturday, the Knox County Emergency Management Agency took to Facebook to advise local residents to evacuate after receiving calls to “fire”.

The 7:30 a.m. advisory reads, “Residents may see law enforcement helicopters and vehicles in this area.” All persons are asked to avoid the area until further notice.”

A second advisory at 10 a.m. said police were working to secure the property and that “while residents are no longer asked to evacuate to the location, they are still asked to avoid the area.” added.

CNN has reached out to the Ohio Criminal Investigative Service to investigate the police-involved shooting.

About 60,000 people live in Knox County, Ohio, according to the US Census. The county is about an hour’s drive from Columbus and is primarily rural, with agriculture cited as the largest employer in the area.

Sheffer added that it’s been “many years” since he dealt with a shooting involving a police officer in the area, and this is the first since he was hired by the county in 2013.
