Speed merchant, Timo Werner will now return to Germany with former club RB Leipzig after securing a move from Chelsea – a stint that proved to be fruitless for the 26-year old – probably prompting a player rating change in FIFA 23.

RB Leipzig has shown that the club is not to be underestimated in both the Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League, courtesy of their hardworking talented players within the squad.

As we near the end of the transfer window, The Red Bulls have managed to achieve another small feat – bringing back a former glorious player, Timo Werner!

The young German forward was Leipzig’s main man before his transfer to Chelsea in 2020, now replaced by the outstanding Christopher Nkunku who excelled at Werner’s place on the team.

Werner did not enjoy his time at Stamford Bridge, only recording ten (10) goals in fifty-six (56) games while consistently being forced to start from the bench.

With the new season now here, Chelsea seems to have moved on from Werner, allowing Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, and recent world-class recruit, Raheem Sterling, to lead the frontline.

Werner still has a lot of potential to develop into a superb striker, but he needs to play at the right place where he can prosper and shine.

Going back to Leipzig might be the best for all parties involved, especially for the German international.

That said, Werner’s recent bad form is not easily overlooked, and with the developers’ latest breakdown of FIFA 23’s gameplay purportedly showing some of Chelsea’s player ratings – including Werner’s – his new rating might actually look something like this:

(ST) Timo Werner’s Potential Player Rating: OVR 83 (-1)

  • Pace: 91
  • Dribbling: 80 (-2)
  • Shooting: 80 (-1)
  • Passing: 70
  • Physicality: 70
  • Defending: 35

As was shown throughout the past two (2) years in the Premier League, Werner had lost some of his ability to beat defenders with the ball, and his finishing has been atrocious at times (getting Fernando Torres vibes at Chelsea).

There were glimpses of his other primary attributes, though, especially when it comes to his explosive speed on and off the ball.

Still, he had not been able to live up to the hype surrounding his arrival, and this would definitely impact his overall rating as a whole.

We’ll find out soon enough once FIFA 23 launches worldwide on 30th September 2022 (Friday).
