Three Muslim men were killed in Albuquerque.Police are investigating a connection to the same killer

Two members of the same mosque, Muhammed Afzaal Hussain, 27, and Aftab Hussein, 41, both from Pakistan, were killed last week in southeastern Albuquerque, police said in a news release. Detectives are now trying to determine if there is any connection between these killings and the November 2021 killing of another Muslim man of South Asian descent, Mohammad Ahmadi.

Kyle Hartsock, deputy commander of the police’s Criminal Investigation Division, said: “We are looking at all the evidence to look for further links, but we do know that these three men are Muslim and of similar ancestry. What I had was very worrying.”

Hartsock called for the help of the public to identify the “shooter or shooter” and said the victims in all three incidents were “ambushed, shot and killed without warning”.

Investigators met with leaders of the Islamic Center in New Mexico on Thursday morning.

“We want to reassure our friends in the Muslim community that we are making these crimes a top priority for the department,” said APD Director Harold Medina.

CNN reached out to the Islamic Center of New Mexico for comment.

FBI Special Agent Raul Boujanda also promised the FBI would help identify those responsible.

“I extend my condolences to the families of the victims and will not rest until justice is done,” he said.

“If biased motives are identified, state and federal authorities should apply appropriate hate crime charges.” CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad Said.
