Elmo 2 Fire grows to nearly 13,000 acres at 0% containment as winds pick up in western Montana

The fire spread to just over 2,000 acres on Sunday and is still under 0% control, Incident Commander John Thompson said in a news release Monday.

Winds are expected to reach 10 to 14 mph Monday, with gusts expected to reach 25 mph, Thompson said.

The fire is burning about 85 miles northwest of Missoula, Montana. Salish and Kootenay Confederacy of Flathead Reservation.

On Friday, the reservation raised the fire hazard level to “very high” and residents were urged to exercise caution.

Meanwhile, some residents of the fire zone have been issued advance evacuation orders, Thompson said.
