England claimed a dramatic first-ever major women’s championship win in the Euro 2022 final, beating Germany 2-1 after extra time.

The victory was watched by a crowd of 87,192 at Wembley Stadium. This is a record attendance for a men’s or women’s European Championship final.

England’s Ella Thun opened the scoring with a deft chip midway through the second half before Lina Magur’s equalizer sent the game into extra time.

Ten minutes after the penalty shootout, Chloe Kelly scored the winning goal as she stabbed the ball over the line from close range to avenge Germany’s 6–2 defeat to Germany in the 2009 final in Finland.
