Miami – Dr. Marta Perez, a member of the Miami-Dade Public Schools Board, argues that people won’t support Lt. Gov. It happens,” he claims.

Her District 8 opponent Monica Colucci’s campaign told CBS4 that Perez is responding this way because she’s in a losing position, calling it an act of desperation. I am telling you that there is

“It’s a nightmare of intimidation for those who support me on every level,” Perez said.

Dr. Perez has served on the School Board of Miami-Dade for 24 years.

She faces significant opposition in her bid for re-election, claiming a former employee who resigned after being threatened.

“The lieutenant governor visited and basically told me he had to resign,” Perez said.

Nunez has not revealed who he will endorse in the District 8 race.

In a statement, Lieutenant Governor DeSantis said, “Governor DeSantis and I fully support Monica Colucci in this campaign. This is called democracy, not sabotage. Our school board. It’s time for new leadership at Monica and a platform around parental rights, school choices, and what voters want for their children’s future isn’t new taxes.”

There has been no response yet to the allegations of intimidation.

Perez claims the support extends to threatening her supporters.

“If anyone helps me with my campaign, they will be visited and threatened,” Perez added.

A political consultant for Colucci’s election campaign told CBS4 that he vehemently denied the allegations.

“Marta Perez is delusional at best. At worst, she’s completely unfaithful.”

Colucci’s supporters continued, “We believe Perez has been there too long and has not touched the district’s values.”

And they trust Colucci’s experience, having worked as an educator for 26 years.

Perez said campaigning efforts against her, either online or by mail, have distorted her record and achievements, and has been on the board for more than 20 years.

“Their writing, their lies, their misinformation is nasty,” Perez shared.

Perez’s campaign effort features billboards highlighting her achievements and promoting the district’s success in surpassing neighboring districts while raising graduation rates to over 90%.

“The power behind my opposition is not for quality teachers or public education,” Perez added.

Perez also told me that the reason donors and longtime friends don’t answer her calls is because they’re afraid.

And to clarify, Colucci’s team denies the allegations, and their supporters believe the time has come for someone new to stand by the district’s values.

Despite repeated efforts, Perez says he never got a chance to speak with Lt. Nunez before sharing these allegations.
