“It was very overwhelming in a good way,” said Sabrina Lopez, a friend of the Pineda family. “All the support from the community. It’s great just to get everyone together.”
Pinedas was from El Salvador. As part of their culture, awakening can begin during the day and continue throughout the night. While loved ones are in mourning, the house reminds them of the time they spent with Pinedas in the living room and backyard.
Friends and family shared good times memories and conversations.

According to Lopez, dozens of people come out to help families in mourning during a Saturday fundraiser at Merchant Drive and Mia Homes Construction near 30th Avenue. I confirmed that items such as food and tents were prepared for this purpose. The funds raised will help with funeral expenses.
“People chop beans into small pieces and prepare beef, chicken and tamales,” Lopez said. “In preparation for this, a lot seems to be happening in so many different homes.”
