Mario Lopez helps lead the search for a new generation of menudos

After a 12-year break, Menudo Productions announced the start of a global talent search to find the next iteration of the vocal group that helped make Ricky Martin famous as a teenager.

Lopez, who spent his time as a teenage idol when starring as an AC slater on the 90’s sitcom Saved by the Bell, hosts the latest information on searching social media platforms.

The global quest for Menudo: A New Beginning begins with an online submission later this month. Starting with an audition event in San Juan, Puerto Rico, a selection of face-to-face audition events will also be held.

“Like many people around the world, I grew up as a big fan of menudo,” Lopez said in a press release. “I am very pleased and honored to be able to participate in bringing this iconic Latin boy band back to the world!”

The Puerto Rican boy band dominated the preteen market in the 80’s and 90’s and is known for introducing new faces as old talent moves out of the group.

This isn’t the first time Menudo has revived, but executives are taking a new approach. The band has plans to “connect with fans in unimaginable ways just 10 years ago,” Menudo Productions CEO Paul Tarnopol said in a statement.

According to the press release, “Unlike the incarnation of the previous group, the new Menudo members share the proceeds of all concerts, merchandise and music.”

“We are committed to the safety, well-being and financial safety of all members of Menudo,” Tarnopol said.

“This is the meaning of a’new beginning’,” he said.
