Cooper Roberts was shot in the chest and suffered several serious injuries, including amputation of the spinal cord, Royge said at a virtual press conference Thursday.
According to Loitzi, he is hospitalized in a critical but stable condition with a ventilator in sedation.
“It will be a new common sense for him to move forward,” Loitzi said. “He seems to have serious problems moving forward, especially when it comes to walking.”
Luke was injured in a shrapnel, treated and released, and is now recovering at home, Royge said. Their mother, Keeley Roberts, was “shot in the area of her legs and feet” and underwent several surgeries, a spokesman added.
According to Loitzi, she was discharged because she claimed to be on Cooper’s side at the hospital.
Baseball fans and fighters
Cooper has always been very active, loves baseball and sports in general, and is a fan of Milwaukee Brewers, Royge said.
The twin brothers are “best friends and criminal partners,” Cooper’s sister said in a statement.
“Cooper has never met a stranger in his life. Everyone he meets is his instant best friend (after Luke),” she said in a statement. “He’s also incredibly athletic. He participated in the first Brewers game about football, biking, and baseball (Go Brew Crew-about a week ago, but can’t love it anymore.” I love soccer (Go Pack Go) .. “There’s nothing this kid can’t do, and there’s no word about the amount of good in him,” he added.
Cooper has undergone several surgeries since the shooting. But like his mother, Cooper is a fighter, Royge said.
“If you know Keeley, she’s just a fighter, and Cooper seems to have put that part of her inside him because he’s fighting as hard as he can,” Loitzi said. ..
Keeley Roberts is the supervisor of Zion Elementary School District 6, a school district in northeastern Illinois. In a statement, district officials said Cooper hoped that “it would be okay, but his medical costs would be just as important as subsequent treatment.”
Loitzi, who said she knew Roberts through her work, explained her as follows: He is always devoted to his students, working “24 hours a day” and even early in the morning he emails “I’m worried about my school students and how I can support and serve them.”
“She is the administrator of a school that has served many districts for years, and I’m constantly surprised … (at) day and night for her to serve public school students and families. I’m working hard regardless, “Loizzi said. “And now she and her family need our support.”
