Biden revokes Afghanistan’s designation as a major ally other than NATO

In a letter to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi I have written: “Revised in accordance with Article 517 of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 (22 USC 2321k), I announce my intention to revoke Afghanistan’s designation as a major non-NATO ally.”
2012, USA Nominates Afghanistan as a major ally other than NATOThis paved the way for both countries to maintain defense and economic relations. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the time announced the designation during her visit to Kabul.

Due to its ally status, Afghanistan was eligible for military training and support, including promoting the sale and leasing of military equipment, even after NATO troops left the country.
