(CNN) — Spirit Airlines, a low-cost airline, has gained the opportunity to expand its operations at the crowded Newark Airport. Overcame major United Airlines complaints that Spirit and his associates are blocking operations.
The U.S. Department of Transport said the Spirit will receive 16 peak hour opportunities to take off or land the plane at Newark Liberty International Airport.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, airport capacity is expected to arrive or depart 79 times per hour.
JetBlue and Alaska Airlines were spirit competitors in some or all spots.
“We are delighted that this process is over,” said Spirit spokesman Eric Hoffmeier. “We will continue to drive competition and provide affordable and valuable travel options for guests entering and exiting the New York metropolitan area. I will do it. ” CNN.

Newark Airport has the highest cancellation rate of any major airport, according to statistics from the Department of Transportation Statistics.
United, Spirit and others have argued over who should be responsible and how federal authorities should handle the situation.
United uses Newark as its primary hub, where it dominates and consumes 70% of the runway timing, according to the numbers processed by the Spirit.
United recently said it would drop 50 daily flights from this summer’s schedule to ease airport pressure, but will eventually return to the full schedule. With this announcement, United does not have to abandon the Newark spot.
“EWR crisis”
According to federal data, JetBlue is the second largest airline, accounting for about 11% of Newark’s passengers. Spirit currently carries about 7% of passengers.
Spirit has already increased access to Newark, but said it is using spots that international airlines have stopped using during the pandemic.
United recently said international airlines are back and Spirit and JetBlue are “causing a crisis with EWR.” [Newark] And customers, especially United customers, bear the frustration and cost of the airline’s reckless neglect of all other operations at the airport. ”
The transportation department said it needed to provide additional information to handle delays, cancellations and customer complaints.
