Healing lieutenant, suspect who died after shooting I-79

Weston, W.Va (WDTV)-After an incident at I-79 near Weston Exit in Lewis County, one agent was shot dead and the suspect died.

Police officers responded to the incident around 10:45 am on Thursday.

Upshur County Sheriff Virgil Miller said the rescue team responded after receiving a call from the Director of the Emergency Management Agency.

On his way home from Clarksburg, the director told officials that he initially thought there was a wreck on that section of the I-79, but when he stopped the car, he witnessed a man in a car accident.

While responding to the scene, Sheriff Miller says that Upshur County Chief Deputy Sheriff Mike Kofman was shot on his thigh.

according to Randolph County Facebook PageDeputy Kofman finished the surgery around 3 pm and “should be fully recovered.”

The helicopter landed on the scene after 12:30 pm, according to a 5 news reporter.

Upshur County Sheriff’s Office officials confirmed in 5 news that the suspect had died.

After the accident, both the north and south lanes were closed for several hours.All lanes resumed around 4:15 pm

Kathy and I ask all West Virginia citizens to pray for this adjutant and his family during this period. Also for everyone who responds to this case.

We should always keep our first responders in prayer, as they are our heroes, rush to the fire to keep us safe and never forget their sacrifices. ..

The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office and West Virginia Police are in charge of the investigation.
