Teen rescues a driver who accidentally drives a car into Patchog Bay

Teens welcome heroes by rescuing drivers at Patchog.

Officials told News 12 that 18-year-old Mia Samorinsky was driving near Patchogue Bay when he accidentally stepped on gas instead of a brake and boarded the water in Shorefront Park on Tuesday.

According to police, 17-year-old Anthony Zhongor saw it happen and jumped into the water for help.

“I just saw the girl knocking on the door and didn’t hesitate after that,” says Zhongor. “Just jump in, save her, take us out and go home.”

Zhongor, a senior in high school, pulled Samolinski away from the car and helped her get to the dock safely.

Upon exiting the water, Samorinsky was taken care of by emergency response personnel. Her father said she just cut her leg.

Samorinsky’s father had the opportunity to thank Zongor for saving his daughter’s life on Wednesday.

“He jumped in while everyone else was looking at his cell phone and filming it,” says Charles Samorinsky. “So I’m here to say he deserves recognition.”

Zhongor is on his way to the boot camp after joining the Marine Corps.

Charles Samorinsky says he is already a hero and has no words of appreciation for helping his daughter.

Zhongor says he doesn’t like being called a hero, but is happy to be where he was on Tuesday.
