Indian Water: Hundreds of Fights to Reach Well

People in the village of Khadimal in Maharashtra, western India, are forced to endanger their lives every day with a bucket of water.

The village is located in the Amravati district of the drought-prone Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, with frequent heat waves.

According to residents, the local village council sends tankers 2-3 times a day. The tanker driver waters the well and causes a desperate rush to fill the bucket before the stock runs out.

Their worries are exacerbated by poor water quality-children often get sick after drinking dirty water, they say.

After the BBC Marathi released the video, Amravati District Council CEO Avishyant Panda visited the village and said the administration would increase the frequency of water trucks. He also said he would set up a pipeline to permanently resolve the village’s water crisis.
