A man trying to enter Alabama Elementary School was shot dead by a school resource officer

At least 34 students were inside Walnut Park Elementary School when the man tried to get in, Tony Redick, director of Gadds Density School, tells CNN.

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is investigating the case.

In a news release, ALEA said individuals were seen trying to force an intrusion into a marked Rainbow City Patrol vehicle near the school. The release said a resource officer had contacted the individual and tried to stop him.

The quarrel continued that an individual tried to steal an officer’s firearm. According to the release, police officers could request a backup, and the corresponding police officer shot and killed an individual sentenced to death at the scene.

According to Houghton, school children were not injured in the incident.

The school year is over, but during the summer, the school has a literacy camp for elementary school students, Redick said.

According to Redick, it was customary to lock all exterior and interior doors in the area at all times. Something he advertised to help keep out potential intruders.

“He tried to open at least two doors leading to the school,” Redick said.

“This is the Gadsden. It’s a small community. You wouldn’t expect this to happen in your school,” he added.

Houghton also praised the work of the school’s resource officer and highlighted the work done by the district in the light of the shootings in Uvalde, Texas.

“After what happened in our school, especially in Texas, we have one of the largest school resource officer programs in Etowah County, preaching that these doors remain locked. The individual was unable to enter the school, “he said. He said.

“From the school’s resource officer’s point of view, he did exactly what he had to do. He went straight to the threat, faced it, and dealt with it. Unfortunately, the suspect died, but that was the most. It’s a safe alternative, to keep the threat away from the school, “he added.

According to Houghton, the school’s resource officer was taken to the hospital to receive treatment for minor injuries received during the quarrel.

It is unknown whether the suspect was armed.
