Gwynn and Musk began dating in 1994 while working as resident advisors at a college dorm, according to a news release told to CNN by RR Auctions. I started taking courses but dropped out to start my first startup, Zip2.
The lot includes 18 candid photos of the entrepreneur as a baby-faced economics student at the University of Pennsylvania, along with several other memorabilia from Musk and Gwynn’s time together.
Glossy photos show the billionaire looking like an ordinary college student before achieving meteoric success. Fool in your dorm room, hang out with your fellow resident advisors, and cuddle with your girlfriend.
The current highest-priced item is a signed birthday card, followed by a necklace given to Gwynn on her birthday.
A note reads, “Happy Birthday, Jennifer (aka Boo Boo), Love, Elon.” As of Sunday morning, the highest bid is almost $7,000. According to RR, the card is expected to sell for over his $10,000.
“When I visited Elon’s mother in Toronto during the 1994 Christmas holidays, Elon gave me both a small ‘Love, Love, Love’ note and a necklace,” Gwynn said in a statement to RR. “His mother had many of these necklaces in a case in her bedroom. Elon told me they were from his father’s emerald mines in South Africa. He took one out of the case. And since I hadn’t given him anything for Christmas (and I felt very guilty about it), he treated the necklace as an early birthday present for me. I said I would consider it.
“I’ve worn the necklace for years, but it’s been mostly in my jewelry box for the past decade (always reminding me of Elon, of course).
The necklace also comes with two photos: one of Musk and Gwynn with model May Musk, who is Musk’s mother, and another of Musk and Gwynn at an end-of-year formal in 1995.
Tesla aficionados can bid on Musk Olaviria until Wednesday, when the auction closes.
