MPD issues tribute traffic warning honoring Eliza Fletcher

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (WMC) – The people of Memphis and the Mid-Southern come together Friday morning to honor and mourn mother and teacher Eliza Fletcher.

A 34-year-old man, now identified as Cleosa Henderson, was driving near the campus of the University of Memphis when he kidnapped her and later abandoned her body.

It’s a story that captured the hearts and attention of the nation, not just the Mid-South.

Parts of Bluff City are teeming with people after Fletcher’s last run.

Road closures and diversions are expected from 4 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. along Central Avenue from Belvedere Boulevard to Zach Carlin Street, according to the Memphis Police Department.

According to MPD, reroutes will be made as race/walk time approaches. The road opens on a rolling basis as soon as the last participant has passed and all course material has been removed.

Minor traffic congestion may occur on the following streets:

  • Roselle street
  • Belvedere Boulevard
  • S McLean Boulevard
  • cooper street
  • East Parkway
  • S. Hollywood Street
  • Milton Avenue
  • S. Greer Street
  • South Highland Street
  • Paterson Street
  • Zach Carlin Street

The event is centered around the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at 1695 Central Street.
