Sunday’s attack, which shook Canadians and put Saskatchewan in jeopardy, spanned 13 crime scenes, officials said.
Less than three hours after the first attack was reported, authorities identified the suspect as the brothers of Damien Sanderson and Miles Sanderson.
Damien Sanderson, 31, was found dead Monday morning in a “grassy area” near the James Smith Cree Nation home, police said.
Rhonda Blackmore, Assistant Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, added that his injuries were not believed to be self-inflicted and the exact cause of death will be determined by the Saskatchewan coroner’s office. .
Blackmore said his 30-year-old brother is still at large and is considered “armed and dangerous”. The man had a “long criminal record” and an arrest warrant was issued before the stabbing incident.
Police have warned that Sanderson may also be injured and may seek medical attention, but did not provide further details as to why they believe he may have been injured.
“We have strong reasons to believe that he has sustained some injuries. We don’t know exactly what those injuries are,” Blackmore said.
Miles Sanderson, still on the run, has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, and burglary.
The suspect had a Saskatchewan license plate and was reportedly seen by two witnesses inside a vehicle on Sunday in the city of Regina, more than 300 kilometers (186 miles) south of the James Smith Cree Nation. It was believed to be traveling in a black Nissan Rogue with markings, according to police.
Regina Police Chief Evan Bray said that although the lead on the car was already “old”, it remained the most recent and reliable information available to the police and “was operating under the impression that Miles was in the City of Regina.” I continue,” he said.
The car has not yet been found, and Bray said it was unclear who was in the car other than Damien.
“Is it possible they’re not in this community anymore? It’s possible, but we have no information to disprove or point us in either way,” Bray said.
Police have not identified a motive for the attack, Blackmore said, and the type of weapon used has yet to be announced. “Processing 13 crime scenes requires a significant amount of resources,” she said.
“There is a lot of unrest in our state right now, in our communities and across the country,” Bray said. It won’t happen.”
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called the stabbing “horrifying and heartbreaking”.
“I am shocked and devastated by the horrific attacks that have claimed 10 lives and injured many more in James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon, Saskatchewan,” Trudeau said in a statement.

Few details about the siblings have been made public.
Miles Sanderson on the run is about 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighs 240 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes.
According to police, it remains unclear whether he was involved in Damian Sanderson’s death.
“We’re following up, but we can’t say for sure at this point,” Blackmore said.
Attack deployment method
Investigators on Monday were trying to piece together the order in which the attacks took place. Blackmore said the stabbings did not necessarily take place in the order the calls were made and it was unclear if his brother was suspected of carrying out the attacks at the same time.
The first stabbing was reported at 5:40 a.m. local time at the James Smith Cree Nation, followed by several more calls about stabbings elsewhere minutes later.
By 9:45 a.m., authorities had reported victims in multiple locations, including Weldon village, and said some victims may have been randomly attacked.
A total of 28 people were injured, 10 of whom died.
A helicopter crew carried the victim to the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, while other victims were taken by ground ambulance to a local hospital. Police said there may be more injured people who have been taken to various hospitals.
Victims include men and women of various ages, Blackmore said, some appearing to have been targeted, while others may have been randomly attacked.
Police have not released information about the victim’s condition or identity, but said the youngest was in his early 20s.
About three hours after the first stabbing was reported, authorities identified the suspects as the Sanderson brothers and told the public they were driving a black Nissan Rogue SUV.
Around noon, an alert was sent reporting that a suspicious vehicle had been seen by drivers on Arcola Avenue in Regina, telling the public of Regina to evacuate the location.
It was the next morning that Damian Sanderson was found dead.
