Packers fans paint new slogan on ‘original’ fence

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (WBAY) – The Packers may open the regular season in Minnesota on Sunday, but the title town is gearing up for football.

In the shadow of Lambeau Field, 1177 Shadow Lane has a green and gold ranch house. But what really means a lot to Packers fans is the fence in the backyard of the property across from Lambeau Field.

“If you’re a true Packer fan, put it on your to-do list or whatever,” says Green Bay’s David Fenner.

On Labor Day, and for decades now, Packers fans and even team officials have turned up at the house with paintbrushes in hand to participate in the annual fence-painting tradition. “I drew a lot. It was my high school job when I was in high school,” Packers president and CEO Mark He Murphy said.

A slogan on the fence can serve as inspiration for the coming year. According to Josh Viste of Green Bay, “I always looked forward to each trip to Green Bay. Now that Green is home, we are still wondering what will be printed there and how it will be printed.” I’m looking forward to seeing what you do. It’s really eye-catching.”

This year’s Fence and the slogan it carries throughout the season goes beyond football.

“The slogan on the fence is dedicated to Freddie and says ‘Hey Pack. Bring it home for Fred and then Freddie has a trophy too so the Packers will be happy this year if the Packers take it home for Fred.’ We have to bring it back, let’s do it,” says Dotty Harrsch.

Freddie is Fred Hirsch from New Jersey who fell in love with the Green Bay Packers as a child in the 1950s. His friend Jim Pecard said: And when the opportunity arose to purchase this house in Shadow Lane, Fred jumped at it. ”

For over 20 years he owned the home that was the home of the “official” Packers Fence. Hirsch passed away earlier this year, but his family is making sure his legacy and love for the Packers live on.

His sister-in-law, Dottie Hirsch, added: We will continue to do so every year while preserving the tradition. What the previous family started in his 1984, Fred continued and still does. “[reviousfamilystarteditin1984Fredcontinuedandnowwe’regoingtocontinue”[reviousfamilystarteditin1984Fredcontinuedandnowwe’regoingtocontinue”

This year’s fence may be a tribute to Fred Hirsch, but everyone at Packers Nation wants the team to bring the Lombardi Trophy home to Title Town.
