TREASURE ISLAND, FL — The Treasure Island Fire Department adopted an 8-month-old beagle from the Tampa Bay Humane Society this week.
A beagle dubbed “Captain” has become the newest member of Station 24.
“When we first got him, he didn’t know how to act like a dog. After two days, it’s so much fun to see him playing with treats and toys. Treasure Island Fire Rescue Ambulance lifeguards and firefighters.
Lieutenant Stephen Rowland adopted a beagle at an animal shelter earlier this week.

A young puppy was rescued from a Virginia facility that bred and sold beagles for scientific research. Court records show the company violated animal welfare laws. The American Humane Society has rescued approximately 4,000 beagles from the facility.

“This dog didn’t interact much with humans and just wasn’t friendly. We had him for three days. He’s running all over the station now,” said Treasure Island Fire Rescue Chief Trip Burs. said.
A handful of dogs ended up at the Tampa Bay Humane Society and the Sarasota Humane Society.
“Captain” works as a therapy dog for first responders. He also participates in the Fire Department at public educational events and becomes the Fire Department’s official mascot.

Chief Birds said the dog will be participating in the department at community events.
“We do a lot of beach safety, we do car seat safety, we teach CPR and general hurricane preparedness,” says Barrs.
The “captain” is learning his way around the fire station. He’s adapted to a life with love, treats, and toys.
“We’re here 24/7. He always has one of three shifts here. You never know which shift will be his favorite,” Barrs said. I was.
