Dalhart High School football player dies of head injury

Lubbock, Texas (KCBD) – Dalhart high school student Yahir Cancino has died after sustaining a severe head injury during a JV football game.

Yahir was injured during a match between the Sundown Roughnecks and the Dalhart Golden Wolves on September 1st. press releaseOfficials said he lost consciousness during the match. When medical trainers and specialists were unable to resuscitate him, he was airlifted to his UMC and placed in the pediatric ICU.

Yahir’s family posted a GoFundMe requesting help with prayers and donations.

“I believe in the power of prayer. I believe in miracles. Thank you to everyone, your donation would be greatly appreciated,” said the GoFundMe.

In the early hours of Sept. 3, Yahir’s mother posted on Facebook stating that Yahir had died from his injuries.

“We ask for your prayers for peace and healing, not just for us but for all the people Yahir touched in his life,” Yahir’s mother said in a Facebook post. I chose to donate the organs of Yahir because he always thought about helping people and we want to honor his memory.”

A candlelit vigil is held at Memorial Stadium on Sundays at 8:30 PM. Participants should bring candles. We will set up a donation box.
