Amy Harris and Robert Kurlander pleaded guilty to stealing Biden’s belongings and selling them to a conservative media group for $40,000, according to court documents.
In September 2020, Harris moved into the Delray Beach, Fla., house where the daughter of current President Joe Biden recently lived to temporarily store her personal belongings. According to crime intelligence, Harris enlisted Kurlander’s help to sell Biden’s valuables to the highest bidder.
The pair attended Donald Trump’s fundraiser on Sept. 6, 2020, hoping to arrange a sale to the then-president’s campaign.
According to documents filed Thursday, Kurlander texted Harris after the event, saying:[Trump] Not available in promotions. They want it to go to the FBI.there is no way [Trump] You can use this. You’ll have to do it differently…”
A few days later, they sent photos of some of Biden’s belongings to Project Veritas. Airfare, hotel, and car services to transport the property from Florida to New York City were paid for by the organization, according to court documents.
Kurlander pleaded guilty in a text to Harris and said Project Veritas was in “sketchy business,” court documents show.
“They’re in a sketchy business, here they’re literally trying to get their hands on stolen diaries and information to make a story to screw up. [Ashley Biden’s] Try to influence lives and elections. According to court documents, Harris took more of Biden’s belongings out of the house after they met in New York at the request of Project Veritas. Project Veritas employees then flew to Florida to obtain additional items and shipped them back to New York, court documents say.
No one at Project Veritas has been publicly indicted in connection with the alleged scheme.
Harris and Kurlander pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to transport stolen goods interstate, and under sentencing guidelines, were sentenced to up to five years in prison, although a judge ultimately decided to sentence them. will be lowered. They are not in custody until sentencing later this year.
“I accept responsibility for what happened and look forward to the rest of my life,” Harris’ attorney Sanford Tokin told CNN.
CNN reached out to Kurlander’s attorneys but did not hear back immediately.
