New Holland Powerstar T4.75 Review

Powerstar tractors use turbocharged, common rail-injected 3.4L 4-cylinder engines from Fiat Powertrain Technologies (FPT). Rated power is 2,300 rpm. Flat power curves between 1,900 to 2,100 rpm ensure maximum performance across the broad powerband. In the case of the New Holland Powerstar Test Tractor, this allows for upto 310 Nm of torque.  Also Read: Tractor Price in Pakistan

Advanced PM catalyst technology is used to achieve Tier 4B (EPA Final Tier 4 or Tier 4B) compliance. This filter removes particulate matter (PM), and requires less operator intervention than a diesel particulate filters (DPF). It also has fewer regeneration events. These engines are quiet and powerful, as well as efficient. The service interval has been increased to 600 hours.

T4.65 buyers who purchase a 12Fx12R hydraulic shuttle transmission will be offered two transmissions. New Holland Powerstar T4.75 customers can choose from an 8Fx8R transmission with either an electric or mechanical shuttle, or an 12Fx12R transmission with either an electronic or mechanical shuttle.

You can also choose a creeper option with speeds of up to 5.9 feet per hour. The transmissions have a speed of 20 mph, but 4WD tractors equipped with the 12Fx12R transmission can go 24 mph and enjoy enhanced braking via the 4WD system. (more details below).

Hydraulics are run through an open central system that has separate pumps for power steering and implement circuits. The flow rate for the services and steering pumps is 9.5 gpm, and for implement demand it is 12.5 gpm (22 gpm). Standard equipment includes two color-coded rear remotes, with the possibility of supporting up to three.

The Cat I/II three point hitch (3PH), which has hydraulic output, can lift 3,664 lbs at the ball ends. Lower lift arms have flexible ends and the outboard stabilizer telescope makes it easy to attach. Both position and draft control are standard. The tractor’s rear has a hitch control, though it is not integrated into the fenderwells like on higher-end tractors. This allows the operator to raise/lower the hitch without climbing into the cockpit.

To run at the rated speed, the base 540 rpm rear engine power take-off (PTO), requires 1,958 engine rotations. However, there is a fuel-saving option called 540E that reduces engine rpm by 1,592. This is ideal for running equipment like a tedder and light-duty mowers. Also Read: Suzuki Alto Price in Pakistan

4WD tractor get an electronic front axle. This is activated by a rocker switch located on the Command Arc console arm. To provide extra stopping power, the tractor equipped with an electronic front axle can be engaged by stepping on both the brake pedal and the rocker switch on the Command Arc console arm. 2WD tractor get a heavy-duty front axle that has a 55-degree steering angle, and a 134″ turning radius (without the use of brakes).

The 655TL loaders were available in both the cab T4.75 and open station New Holland Powerstar models. They have shorter loader brackets and better visibility. The loaders are available in two versions: mechanical self-leveling or non-self-leveling. The former can lift 2,478 lbs up to a maximum height of 124″, with a dump clearance 93″ and an 8-inch dig depth. The latter can lift 3,179lbs up to a maximum height of 125″, with the same dump clearance. Need more lift capacity? New Holland offers the 665TL, which has more lift capacity. The skid-steer-style quick couplers allow for a large range of attachments that can be borrowed, rentable or borrowed. There are also available 3rd function hydraulics that permit implements like a grapple to work.

How does it all work together? Let’s start with the New Holland Powerstar T4.75. The operator platform is easily accessible from both sides due to its spacious platform and steps starboard and port. Access to the Command Arc console, which houses the most commonly-used controls in an ergonomic fashion, is somewhat limited, but not at all like a gymnastic event. The access from the left side is exceptional. It’s no surprise that the pedals of a cab version are suspended. This makes it easier to make a variant with a cab.

The tilt wheel and adjustable seat can be adjusted individually, and the lever placement – which was ergonomically designed with input from farmers and improved by New Holland’s virtual realities tools – fell easily into our hands. At idle, the loader response was 86/87 dBA.

The loader responded slowly but surely acceptable at that point. It then moved to mid 90s at PTO RPM where the loader responded approvingly at the 12.5 gpm. The levers clicked into place with good results for shuttle action and range operation. The optional ratchet-style parking brake was used on both test tractors. Dustin Gibbon explained how on less-equipped tractors, the operator must fuss with getting the gear lever into the cog. The low-cost option was worth it.

Open station New Holland Powerstar t4.75 tractors can be very nice, but T4.75 Cab tractors offer more comfort and control. The VisionView cab has plenty of glass and minimal support posts. It also features a well-thought-out grouping of controls. The HVAC system features 10 vents, is almost silent (we measured 70/71dBA idle with AC on), dual fans and two filtered intakes that draw outside air.

The controls are located on the “B”, pillar, and are automotive-familiar (blue and red temperature and 0-4 fan). An optional radio with MP3 capabilities is available to go with the cab silence. The optional air ride seat was fitted to our tractor cab. It can be used to view a rear implement or a full-size instructor seat. Each seat has its own belt. The tilt wheel is another nice feature for cab models. It also has a dash that moves with every adjustment to keep the display visible. High marks are also given to the digital display, which displays information such as ground speed, PTO rpm and service intervals. Although we aren’t sure if New Holland invented the high-visibility roof panel with ventilation, many people have come to love this feature, especially when loading.

The tractor maintenance program includes a 600-hour service interval and a one-piece hood. It opens high for easy access. There is also a cooling package that slides out to clean the cabin filters. Under the step, there is ground-level fuel filling. The hood is not raised to check the oil level and engine health.
