A woman in critical condition after being set on fire

BAY CO., MI, (WNEM) – Bay County Sheriff Troy Cunningham said a 51-year-old woman suffered severe burns and sustained serious injuries after she allegedly set herself and her home on fire.

A Bay County Sheriff’s Office representative responded to Oakland Mobile Home Park in Williams Township on Saturday, July 30, seeking assistance from the Midland County Sheriff’s Office. A 51-year-old woman who lived in her park on mobile homes contacted her 76-year-old mother after she formally admitted not to contest a domestic dispute with her 76-year-old mother. She violated the restraining order, Cunningham said.

Representatives from both correspondence agencies tried to speak to the woman, but to no avail. Cunningham said she saw through a window a woman pouring a flammable liquid over herself and the floor and setting it on fire.

Lawmakers then kicked in the trailer’s door and were drawn back into the flames, which quickly burned to the ground, Cunningham said.

Cunningham said two lawmakers were able to pull the woman out of the burning building, adding that the trailer was completely lost.

The woman was taken to a local hospital in Midland. She was later airlifted to Harley Medical Center, where she was in critical condition with severe burns, Cunningham said.
