Anne Arundel Co. building where two local artists team up to paint a mural of ‘diversity’

Annapolis, Maryland — Another reason to visit our capital soon.

Two local artists paint a six-story-tall mural at the Arundel Center in Annapolis. The theme of the mural represents the diversity of people and places in Anne Arundel County.

Comacell Brown Jr. is one of the artists selected to paint the mural next to the Arundel Center. Another artist is Cindy Fletcher Holden.

The problem they have is painting this picture on a wall that is 100 feet long and 60 feet high.

“For people who are good at math, and for people like me who can use i-pads to research things, it’s going to be a lot easier,” says Brown.

“And then you move the lift back and you’re like, ‘Hmmm,’ I’ll change it a little bit here and change it a little bit over there,” Holden said.

Both are local and have painted murals all over the country.

Selected from 39 artists.

The judges liked Cindy’s scenic work of the county and liked Comaser’s drawing of the people.

So they chose both.

The theme of the mural is “The Diversity of People and Places in Anne Arundel County.”

“Working with Komaseru allows us to tell stories about growing up,” Holden said. , I’m happy to share it.”

This mural is not just for viewing, it has some interactive features and something called augmented reality.

Point your camera at the QR code on the wall to download the app.

“If you look up like you’re taking a picture of a mural, the magic happens here,” Brown said. “The mural comes to life. You can see the different elements of the mural do their own things based on their characters.”

Planes fly, fish jump, walls come to life. Stand in front of your fishing rod and look like you’ve caught a big rock fish.

The project itself is a demonstration of unity.

“It’s not just about painting,” Brown said. “To see a young black man with an older white woman working with her six weeks, and for someone trying to do something together that represents that unity, it’s bigger than artwork for me.” That’s it.”

Interactive murals should be completed by the end of August or early September.
